Guns Surpass Car Wrecks as Cause of Death | Colorado Springs Criminal Defense Attorney

The Gazette reports that Colorado is one of ten states in which gun deaths out-numbered car accident deaths in 2009, the most recent year for which such data is available. Based on data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), car accident deaths outnumber gun deaths nationally, but in ten states, that is reversed. In 2009, 583 people were killed by guns while 565 people were killed in car wrecks. There are a number of possible ways that people can end up killed by guns, and while all of them are certainly tragic, some of them are accidents, while others are crimes.

Have you been charged with a weapons-related crime? Speak with an experienced Colorado Springs criminal defense attorney immediately to protect your rights.

Whether someone is killed or not, when a criminal charge is filed where a gun is involved, the charge is significantly more serious, and carries the potential for considerably more jail time. This includes the threat of a gun, when a person says that they have one even though they don’t. If the threat is believable at the time, it can affect the charges in the same way as actually having a gun. What is clear is that any charges that are aggravated by the use of a gun are extremely serious.
